Matthew is a clinical psychologist who works with a range of clients and clinical issues, from age 12 upward. He takes a compassionate, pragmatic, and evidence-based approach to treatment. During his Master of Clinical Psychology, Matthew’s research focused on treatment of anxiety, phobia, obsessive-compulsive disorder, trauma, and PTSD, and he also has broad clinical expertise working with depression, anger, grief, insomnia, persistent pain, addiction, and personality disorder.
Prior to private practice, Matthew worked as a clinical psychologist in an acute mental health setting treating complex presentations. Matthew has extensive experience working alongside psychiatry and primary health in the provision of cognitive behavioural interventions for major mental illness, including schizophrenia and bipolar disorder. In addition, he has worked for several years in forensic settings assisting offenders to bring about lasting behavioural change.
Matthew employs solution-focused treatments that respond to each client’s needs, including cognitive-behavioural therapy (CBT), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), motivational interviewing, schema therapy, and eye-movement desensitisation and reprocessing (EMDR).
